The conference team will be led by Martin Luck, who is one of the pioneers of undergraduate research and one of the founding editors of the OUP undergraduate journal Bioscience Horizons. Nottingham is one of the leading research universities in the UK and will be an excellent venue for our next conference.

For BCUR15 we will be heading south again, this time to the University of Winchester. The conference team will be lead by Stephen Hall from the Faculty of Arts. Winchester has an excellent reputation for blending research and teaching in innovative ways. Its modern campus is in walking distance of historic Winchester and about half-an-hour by train from London. The dates are to be confirmed but will be in Spring 2015.

Student winners at first Posters in Parliament

The first BCUR Posters in Parliament exhibition comes to an end today. On Wednesday, a panel of judges chaired by the Rt.Hon Ben Wallace, MP, and including Professor Mick Healey, Professor Phil Levy (Deputy CEO of the Higher Education Academy) and Sean Coughlan (BBC News Education Correspondent) judged a wide range of posters. The overall winner was Rebekah Simpson from Plymouth University, and Andy McWilliam from the University of Nottingham was Highly Commended. The judges thought that the overall standard of the posters and presentations was very high. At a reception hosted by the University of Central Lancashire, Sir Alan Langlands (CEO of HEFCE) presented the students with their certificates of achievement.

This has been quite a year for BCUR already --- and the best is yet to come with our third conference, which is taking place 15th-16th April.

BCUR Posters in Parliament

This week, in a first for British undergraduate research, students from 10 universities will present their research at a special event in the Houses of Parliament. There will be an exhibition all week in the Upper Waiting Hall which is open to members of the public. On Wednesday afternoon, students will be at the their posters from about 2pm to talk about their research. A judging panel led by the Rt.Hon. Ben Wallace MP and including Sean Coughlan (BBC Education correspondant), Professor Mick Healey (University of Gloucestershire) and Professor Phillipa Levy (Deputy CEO of the Higher Education Academy) will talk to students and choose the best poster. At a reception later in the day Sir Alan Langlands (CEO of HEFCE) will present a prize to the students with the best posters.

This is a very significant step forward for the British Conference of Undergraduate Research. The event is inspired by the US Posters on the Hill, an annual showcase of undergraduate research from across America to the country's legislators and policy-makers. This event will bring British undergraduate research into the heart of Parliament.

There will be a full report plus photos next week.
